The issue is a faulty gas pedal, or to be more specific, a speed control cable sticking to an engine cover when the gas pedal is fully depressed. After receiving 68 complaints, U.S. safety regulators began investigating certain models. A worldwide recall came one week later.

So far the problem has reported to cause one death, nine injuries, and 13 crashes. The danger comes from the throttle sticking open causing the vehicle to speed out of control. This is what happened to Saige Bloom, a 17 year-old driving a 2002 Ford Escape for the first time. The SUV accelerated out of control hit the side of another car and flipped three times, sending the girl to the hospital where she died a few hours later.

It sure seems a build like this should have happened here in the states. After all, The Fall Guy was an American TV show that relied heavily on the stunt jumping abilities of one tricked out 1980 GMC Sierra Grande 4X4.

Hasselhoff has, in his past, somehow captured the hearts of Germans by having a short -lived entertainment career in Europe. Lee Majors, star of The Fall Guy, never quite captured as much attention. At least not as the shows stuntman-turned-bounty-hunter character.

The first front engine model since the L002 is the Lamborghini Estoque. The 4-door sedan has eluded the market for some time, making its first appearance at the Paris Motor show in 2008. As the process often goes, consumers got excited, rumors started floating around about a production release, and then it never came out.

There was a possible truth to the rumors however, as Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s chairman, commented a number of times on the likelihood of Lamborghini moving beyond the supercar market. When talking about their planned third model release he stated, “We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis.”

Hot Rod artist Ryan Curtis is raising money to reproduce his black and white illustrations on speed limit signs. Each regulatory-correct sign will be produced in a limited number, with each sign bearing Ryan’s signature. He will also number each sign.

Culturally significant MustangsThe Ford Mustang is an American icon, largely because the car has consistently managed to capture the public’s imagination. From the very first ’64 Coupe to the latest Shelby GT500, every iteration of the Mustang has taken on some cultural significance that makes the car greater than the sum of its parts.

However, there are five specific Mustangs stand out from the rest in terms of cultural significance.

In March of 1932, with the dashing Sir Henry Birkin at the wheel, this 4½ Liter Supercharged ‘Blower’ Bentley set a record 137.96mph on the Outer Circuit at Brooklands.

The previous world’s-best auction for Bentley was the Speed Six known as ‘Old No 2’ which achieved £2.8 million at the Le Mans Classic in 2004.

With the announcement late last year that production of the RX-8 would end in June of 2012, it became apparent that it also spelled the end of the 45-year-old rotary engine.

Mazda’s president, Takashi Yamanouchi, said, “Production of the RX-8 will end, but the rotary engine will live on as an important part of Mazda’s spirit.”

I finally caught up with this past weekend’s Formula 1 race and what a race it was. It was without a doubt the best race so far this season and could very well be the best race from the last two or three seasons.

Formula 1 has looked good so far, with a different driver winning each of the first seven races. Alonso started 11th on the grid and slowly made his way to the front, helped by the failure of Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull Renault and the unfortunate collision between Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren and Williams’ Pastor Maldonado.

Just as Audi broke new ground in motorsports with the legendary Quattro in 1980, they are positioned to do the same at this years 24 Hours of Le Mans with a pair of new R18s, the Ultra and e-tron quattro.

Audi R18 Ultra and e-tron battled it out in Spa 6 Hours at the fantastic Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Audi finished the race taking the top four positions, with one of the R18 Ultra’s just eking out a victory over one of the e-tron quattro’s.
